because of tamils the minority getting high jobs because of english educated during british rule
after sri lanka takeover, government unhappy because sinhalese is majority, but tamils getting better jobs.
make sinhala the official language of administration.
tamils have to lerarn in 3 years or get fired.

E: tamils are upset by the rules because it will be hard to get jobs or promoted because of their incapabilty of sinhala.
may lose jobs, fee insecure and unfair
feel resentful towards government and sinhalese, increase tension between 2 races..

Citizenship rights:
D: only granted to those live in srilanka or ancesstors in srilanka
as result, tamils no citizenship, stateless,
government granted citizenships to some tamils, but not carried out in full.

E: feel unfair as tamils has contributed to economy, but lack the basic rights to vote, housing, education.
feel discriminated against, start to feel angry and show hostility towards sinhalese, conflict breakout.

University admissions:
D:equal number of tamils and sinhalese entering good uni course b4 1980s.
sinhalese under as majority but only equal sinhalese n tamils in uni. shows sinhalese inferior
government made tamils harder to go good course by placing fixed no. of places for sinhalese and tamils hav to score higher..

E: tamils hav to put in more effort to secure better fututre,,
felt bring discriminated and not given chance to do well
show hostility towards sinhalese
leading to conflict.

Resettlement policy:
government made poor sinhalese peasants, monks and army occupy tamils land
E: tamils feel invaded, and threatened by the army
unhappy, challenge government with disagreements
lead to conflict.
